The opening hole at KGC is a Par 5 which doglegs hard right and calls for the correct length tee shot up the right half of the fairway. The layup second shot must be kept on the left half of the fairway to take the oak trees out of play. Going for the green in 2 usually requires a fairway wood played into the prevailing wind to a narrowing fairway. The really BIG hitters can carry the corner with their tee shots leaving a mid to short iron in to the large green. The green is guarded front left and pin high right by bunkers and slopes quite markedly from back to front.
